Staying in The Majestic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur

DSC05604.jpg

Last March, I had the amazing privilege to spend a couple of nights in The Majestic Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. I’ve only seen photos online (thank you Google and location search on Instagram lol!) of the place so I was excited to experience it first hand. Before flying to Kuala Lumpur, I learned through searching online that it was built in 1932 and is situated near the Kuala Lumpur Railway station. It’s pretty cool how they were able to preserve the look of the hotel. Being inside the Majestic actually feels like being in a different era.

Hotel Majestic, Kuala Lumpur

The hotel is divided into two wings: the Majestic Wing and the Tower Wing. I stayed in the Tower Wing where the Contango restaurant is located. Upon arriving, you are greeting by friendly staff right as you step off your car. I got a quick tour around and I was excited to see and check out the facilities of the hotel. Let me give you a virtual tour of the hotel:

The Majestic Wing

Guests of the Majestic Wing not only get to stay in the historic hotel building but also get a 24-hour Butler service, private check-in/out, access to the Majestic Lounge, snacks and light refreshments throughout the day to name a few. You will also find the Orchid Conservatory, The Smoke House, The Majestic Spa, and also the Colonial Cafe at the Majestic Wing.

One thing that caught my attention during the tour is the Smoke House. It houses a lounge with a billiard table, a private dining room with an on-call chef, a cigar room, a tailor, and Truefitt & Hill.

The Colonial Cafe

After checking out some of the facilities of the hotel, I decided to grab lunch at the Colonial Cafe in the Majestic Wing. One item on the menu my guide told me to get is the Hainanese Chicken Rice Balls as it is one of the favorites in the restaurant. I have to admit, they did not disappoint. It was definitely a good first meal to have specially that I haven't had a proper meal since my flight.

The Orchid Conservatory

Right after filling myself in the Colonial Cafe, I decided to check out the Orchid Conservatory and have afternoon tea there. It’s something you definitely wouldn’t miss when you go to the Majestic Wing from the Tower Wing.  It houses a seasonal range of phalaenopsis orchids. The interesting thing about the conservatory is as the season changes, so does the orchids. Bookings can be made to enjoy Afternoon Tea, intimate lunches, or celebratory dinners up to 15 people.

Upon sitting, you will be asked to select what kindo f tea would you like to have. I selected the Berry Infusion as it smelled amazing (and was also good!). After brewing your tea, the arrive with a huge tray of different snacks you can enjoy while having tea. I loved the scones so much! I actually wanted more but was a bit shy to ask for more ha!

Contango

Most of the other meals I had in the hotel were in Contango restaurant. Located in the Tower Wing of the hotel, the restaurant features an open kitchen that promises an interactive dining concept. Food selections range from Western, Chinese, Japanese, Malay, and Thai. I have to be honest, it took me a while to finish selecting what to eat every meal cause there were quite a few dishes to choose from. One thing I loved during dining here is the pasta station. You get to select how much pasta you would like to have and they prepare it right in front of you. Another thing I enjoyed is their gelato! They offer a number of different and unique flavors (durian included if you're a fan!).

The following day, I booked a 2.5 hour spa experience with the Majestic Spa and it was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. It had me wishing for a longer experience when it ended. I’m not really a big fan of spending hours in a spa but after this experience (no exaggeration at all), I have been converted. I’ve been looking for a day at the spa ever since I got back. Hopefully, that happens soon. I’m no pro with rating spa experiences but the one I had gets two thumbs up from me. If you have the time, I suggest you check out their spa when you stay with them (or even if you just feel like having a spa day!).

Last few snaps inside my bedroom. Loved that the bathtub has a TV infront of it (I got to watch HGTV while in the bath lol!)
